The White House Easter Egg Roll is set to proceed on April 21, maintaining its tradition of using real eggs despite concerns by some over elevated prices and supply challenges, according to NBC News. The event will feature 30,000 eggs provided by the American Egg Board, which has long supported the tradition through contributions from farmers nationwide.
Notably, the Trump administration is only using small and medium-sized eggs, which are not sold at markers according to the Egg Board. Responding to concerns over the industry’s recent hardship, the White House reportedly weighed their options including using plastic eggs or including large eggs, and ultimately determined to use real eggs that would not be sold to consumers in stores.
According to NBC News, egg producers faced supply strains due to avian flu, which affected 168 million birds since 2022. While egg prices have recently declined from their peak of $8.64 per dozen in March, they remain higher than average at $3 per dozen. Despite these challenges, the American Egg Board decided to continue its usual provision of eggs for the event, highlighting the importance of celebrating traditions during difficult times.
“Emily Metz, the president and CEO of the Egg Board, said in a statement that using real eggs this year for rolling along the South Lawn ‘will not create additional strain on the nation’s egg supply or egg prices,’” NBC News reports. Metz further explained that the eggs at the Easter Egg Roll “represent a very small percentage of the nearly nine million dozen eggs sold at grocers and other retailers across the country each day.”
Ignoring the fact that only small and medium-sized eggs will be used for the event and the assertion that the event will not make an impact on the nation’s egg supply, some have expressed outrage over the decision to use real eggs not sold in stores.
Vanessa Frias, owner and head farmer of Willowbrook Farms in Michigan, argued that the White House should not be using real eggs for the event, suggesting that plastic eggs would have been more appropriate.
“Those eggs need to go in people’s bellies, and it needs to feed our families here in the United States, not to be played with,” she said.
“Because of the shortage, I don’t think it makes sense to waste our eggs on an event that isn’t giving anything,” Frias added, noting that if “the eggs were going to a cause or going to feed people, but to roll them across the lawn, I don’t think that makes any sense. It’s a waste.”
Others disagreed, however, noting the significance of the tradition. The Easter Egg Roll, dating back to 1878 during President Rutherford B. Hayes’ administration, includes activities like egg races, games, and live entertainment. Families with children aged 13 and younger can attend by entering an online lottery. Additionally, souvenir wooden eggs featuring presidential signatures are available for purchase as keepsakes.
The only thing that’s creating a “strain” on the egg supply is the Global Elites that are deliberately placing a strain on our food supply… control the food, you control the people. Does anybody remember so many recalls for food, I don’t!
Using plastic eggs? Really? I don’t recall all of this flabbergasted talk when Obiden did it!! Nor when Barry O did it either! Let the kids enjoy it as is; especially since all of the hate that’s going on against this government administration now 😒. A kid’s laughter is something to look forward to nowadays! Leave it alone! You don’t know that the eggs collected are NOT going into someone else’s belly! Maybe some homeless people eh?
There is always some miserable jerks who love to voice their negativity on other people. Don’t listen to them and do the Easter egg roll! They want to try and make you as miserable as they are. They can stew in their own misery.
