WATCH: Biden says ‘I want Europe to know the United States is there’ as NATO designates China as ‘systemic’ challenge

President Biden reassured European allies Monday that the United States is committed to supporting its allies shortly before the NATO Summit. This comes before NATO leaders designated China as a “systemic” challenge against the Western military alliance.
Biden sat down with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to discuss the global threats in Russia and China. “There is a growing recognition over the last couple years that we have new challenges,” Biden said. “We have Russia that is not acting in a way that is consistent with what we’d hoped. And as well as China.”
Biden’s statement followed NATO leaders’ denouncing China for threatening the alliance. “China’s stated ambitions and assertive behavior present systemic challenges to the rules-based international order and to areas relevant to alliance security,” NATO leaders said after their summit in a communique.
“I just want all of Europe to know that the United States is there,” Biden said. “The United States is there.”
