President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visited Swannanoa, North Carolina on Friday to meet with individuals devastated by Hurricane Helene. Trump made it a priority to visit North Carolina, as well as Los Angeles, in the wake of enormous disasters that left communities in complete ruin, making the trip within the first few days of his second term.

Visiting North Carolina, the President and First Lady listened to residents whose lives were uprooted following the hurricane after it tore through their community. Standing at the President’s podium next to the Commander-in-Chief himself and the First Lady, hurricane victims reflected on the loss they and their neighbors experienced. Describing the aftermath of the storm, the residents recalled floodwaters ripping homes from the ground and seeing bodies float past them of those who tragically did not survive.

Trump supporters lined the streets as the President’s motorcade entered the area, greeting him with cheers. After months of neglect, Trump’s arrival likely brought them relief that a compassionate and able Commander-in-Chief is now office who recognizes that the residents of these communities are in need of serious help.

It was impossible to ignore the failure of the Biden administration in handling the crisis North Carolinians faced immediately after Hurricane Helene and which they continue to face today.

According to the New York Post, President Trump said in a press conference standing among several victims, “The Biden administration kicked 2,000 displaced North Carolinians out of their temporary housing into freezing, 20-degree weather.”

“I don’t know how they did that one because it was cold even while your government provided shelter and housing for illegal aliens from all over the world,” he added.

“It’s been four months since the storm made landfill [sic],” he said, “and still 180 roads remain closed and in ruins.”

Both President Trump and the First Lady embraced the victims with sincere concern for their plight. Trump shared that the First Lady wanted to be in North Carolina with him to spend time with the victims for whom she “felt bery badly.”

“The highest responsibility and deepest obligation of the American government is to protect its people, and that’s never truer than in times of emergency like this,” Trump said, promising that “under the Trump administration, the days of betrayal and neglect are over.”
