Trump is enjoying his bolsterous leads over Biden in swing states on Monday. According to a CNN/SSRS poll, Trump is leading Biden by 10 points among registered voters in Michigan and by 5 points in Georgia. Majority of voters in both the swing states hold negative views of Biden’s job performance, policies and mental acuity ahead of a potential 2024 rematch with Trump, the poll found. Biden won Michigan in 2020.
Trump’s numbers improved against Biden among voters under the age of 45, as he led the president 50% to 40% in Georgia and 49% to 38% in Michigan, according to the survey.
The former president held his lead over Biden when independents Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West were on the ballot, where the two brought in a combined 26% support in Michigan and 21% in Georgia, according to the poll. Trump broadened his lead over Biden by 3 points in Georgia with the independents in the mix, but dropped by 2 points in Michigan.
In the GOP Primary, Trump surpassed 50 percent among likely Iowa caucus goers, and earned first-choice support from 51 percent of likely caucus goers in the latest NBC News/Des Moines Register poll. Following Trump is Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who sits at just 19 percent. The new poll suggests that the recent flurry of campaign activity among Trump’s rivals — and the winnowing of the GOP primary field — has worked to the de facto incumbent’s benefit: Trump has risen 8 points since the same poll was conducted in October, while DeSantis has climbed just three points over the same period.
Nikki Haley, meanwhile, remains static, winning a first-choice endorsement from just 16 percent of likely Iowa caucus goers, the same share she held in October. Vivek Ramaswamy and Chris Christie bring up the rear with 5 percent and 4 percent first-choice support, respectively.
“The field may have shrunk, but it may have made Donald Trump even stronger. I would call his lead commanding at this point,” said J. Ann Selzer, who has been conducting the Hawkeye State poll for three decades.
