Pete Hegseth was confirmed as Secretary of Defense in a late night confirmation vote on Friday night.
Vice President JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote on Friday after toxic RINO Senators McConnell, Murkowski and Collins voted “no.”
It was already known that GOP Senators Murkowski and Collins were going to vote against Hegseth on Friday evening, so all eyes were on McConnell after Fox News’ Chad Pergram said the Kentucky Senator might defect.
McConnell ended up voting “no” on Friday.
McConnell hobbled over and shook hands with Democrats after he voted “no” on Hegseth.
McConnell said he voted “no” because Hegseth failed to demonstrate whether he can manage an annual budget of nearly $3 trillion and 3 million military personnel.
Per Fox News reporter Chad Pergram:
McConnell on opposing Hegseth: Mere desire to be a ‘change agent’ is not enough to fill these shoes. And ‘dust on boots’ fails even to distinguish this nominee from multiple predecessors of the last decade. Nor is it a precondition for success. Secretaries with distinguished combat experience and time in the trenches have failed at the job.
Effective management of nearly 3 million military and civilian personnel, an annual budget of nearly $1 trillion, and alliances and partnerships around the world is a daily test with staggering consequences for the security of the American people and our global interests.
Mr. Hegseth has failed, as yet, to demonstrate that he will pass this test. But as he assumes office, the consequences of failure are as high as they have ever been.
The United States faces coordinated aggression from adversaries bent on shattering the order underpinning American security and prosperity. In public comments and testimony before the Armed Services Committee, Mr. Hegseth did not reckon with this reality.
President Trump pretty much confirmed McConnell is irrelevant.

“Manage an annual budget” … Congress would be empty chairs if that was an issue for Mitch the Con.
Mitch needs to step down and get some serious medical assistance.
Well once those generals at the top are gone and the dead wood, the $$ will be significantly less don’t you think 😉😁
I have no doubt Pete will have a lean and mean team to the glory of GOD.
Thanks for all you do Sara!
How ironic. McTurtle thinks Hegseth can’t manage a $1 trillion budget. Hegseth was hired to manage a drastic decrease in that $1 trillion budget. Maybe after he succeeds, we can get him to do the same with the drunken sailor budget McTurtle mismanages.
President Trump, unlike his predecessor, is good at firing those who don’t get the job done. I am a veteran who is thrilled that Pete has been selected. God speed Pete and the USA.
AS SEC. OF DEFENCE YOU HAVE STAFF THAT YOU OVERSEE TO MANAGE THE $1 TRILLION BUDGET, FOOL!!! OL’PUDDY FACE NEEDS TO SHUFFLE BACK TO HIS RINO CLOSET AND MUMMIFY!!!
Hopefully Pete will do something no one has done years. Balance the Pentagon budget. Time to go home Mitch the party is over.
It’s time for McConnell needs to retire!! If you’re going to say you want President Trump to succeed, then give him the men and women he has ask for . NO republican should keep Trump from doing what we the people have elected him to do. Vote YES to EVERY NOMINATION TRUMP WANTS!!!! Thank you and God bless.
Mitch and his neck-bag need to retire.
Mitch needs to retire. He IS a sellout
He voted for Austin who activated DEI, supervised the cowardly retreat from Afghanistan and oversaw the plummeting recruitment crisis. Go home, Mitch!
Everything he said was BS, typical of Democrats he sides with. Trump needs to take him to task over his stock market involvement with defense contractors, and who his lobbyist contacts are.
Over the hill. Time to get the rocking chair on the porch.
Mothball smelling McConnell is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, RINO on Capitol Hill. He needs to be removed as head of defense spending & there should be a call for his removal from the Senate. I never did like him. No doubt that he, Nancy Pelosi, & the democrats have an alliance. Get out of here, Mitch!!!
He voted against Hagseth because he loves the military industrial complex. Plain and simple, he likes war because he profits from it. Secy. Hegseth is not in favor of forever wars. That “manage an annual budget” stuff is just an excuse.
“McConnell is in his seventh Senate term and is longest-serving senator in Kentucky history.”
Who controls the U. S. Senate?
Not the people of the United States. Who we get to vote for is not our choice. It’s money, money, money, and power. As long as you go the route that the power mongers want you to go, you’ll stay in.
