Texas will be purchasing the border wall pieces being auctioned off by the Biden administration, according to Lt. Governor Dan Patrick. The Texan reports Patrick told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham that the state is making plans to buy the materials and give them to President-elect Donald Trump to build the southern border wall.
“I got a billion dollars in my pocket to do it,” Patrick said. “I will go in and buy it all.”
According to the New York Post, the Biden administration has been auctioning off materials intended to build the border wall in a move some say is to sabotage President-elect Donald Trump’s effort to secure the border.
Speaking to the Daily Wire anonymously, one agent said that the administration is taking material from three sections including Nogales, Tucson, and Three Points.
Footage taken by a US Customs agent shows flatbed trucks taking away “dismantled sections of the steel wall near Tucson, Arizona” where illegal crossings have surged. The agent estimated that a half-mile’s worth of wall material is being hauled away daily.
The materials were found to be auctioned off on GovPlanet, an online auction platform that specializes in military surplus. Bidding for the wall materials starts at just $5. One auction of the parts that took place this month listed the pieces as “Steel Bollard Wall Sections w/Grout.” Another auction is scheduled to take place on December 18.
The border wall materials that Trump secured during his first presidency were left unused by the Biden administration since Biden took office in January 2021. Biden’s decision to stop the construction of the wall and ring in policies that enabled illegal immigration to surge led to the border crisis that topped so many Americans’ concerns as a voter issue for the presidential election.
According to the New York Post, $300 million worth of the wall materials, funded by taxpayers by the way, was “left to rust.”
Lawmakers are criticizing Biden even more now for appearing to undermine President-elect Trump’s plan to get the border under control and secure. Building the border wall is a key part of his plan to help curb the surge in illegal immigration as well as issuing mass deportations of illegal immigrants targeted those convicted of crimes.
