Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Lindsey Graham warned President Donald Trump Friday not to allow Democrats stop his administration from working out a deal to fix the nation’s infrastructure.
“not one Democrat will give a damn,” said Graham.
Graham, R-South Carolina, implored the president during an interview on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” to work with Democrats, despite the continued partisan investigations into Trump and his family. Trump promised this week that he will not work on anything until Democrats drop investigations into his 2016 campaign, his family and his finances.
“He has got to do infrastructure,” said Graham. “Mr. President, don’t let these guys goad you into not doing good things for the country.”
Graham Warns U.S. Intel and FBI “blew through every stop sign”
Graham also warned that the ongoing investigation by Department of Justice Attorney General William Barr and other prosecutors will reveal that U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies “blew through every stop sign” when investigating the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election. One of the main ‘stop signs’ as Graham put it was warnings about the information former British spy Christopher Steele was collecting was unreliable and not vetted.
Trump’s Memo To Intel and Exculpatory Evidence
The senator was responding to questions regarding President Donald Trump’s memo Thursday requiring all intelligence agencies and other agencies listed in his memo fully cooperate with Barr’s investigation.
Graham also discussed the exculpatory evidence that the FBI failed to turn over to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court when seeking warrants on both Trump campaign advisors Carter Page and possibly George Papadopolous. The warrants allowed the FBI to spy on Page and gather his communications.
“You’re going to find out the mentality of the people investigating the president, you’re going to find out exactly what they did and said and you’ll find out the Papadopoulos wasn’t working with the Russians and they knew early on that he had no contacts with the Russians,” Graham said. “There will be some transcripts coming out where he says well if he did that, that would be treason.”
He said the American people deserve to know the truth and that Barr will ensure that whatever is declassified “won’t compromise our national security.”
“Barr is going to look at it from a criminal point of view,” Graham said. “Horowitz is going to tell us about the FISA warrant internally how the Department of Justice and the FBI behaved, and I’m going to look at all of it to make sure it never happens again.”
“I’m going to make sure we have FISA laws that can detect when somebodys giving the court a bunch of garbage,” he added. “I’m going to make sure we have some rules that you just can’t open a counterintelligence investigation on a presidential candidate without having a good reason”
