Schiff’s Impeachment Push Is Detrimental To Intelligence Committee’s Oversight Role
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff’s push for impeachment proceedings of President Donald Trump based on a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is detrimental to the oversight role of the committee, puts politics ahead of facts in crucial intelligence matters and plays into the hand of America’s enemies.
Schiff, D-CA, supported by Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and his colleagues, are not focused on a bipartisan investigation of the facts that is required as part of their roles on the House Intelligence Committee , but instead, on an endgame: to ensure Trump is impeached.
So now they’re transforming the committee into ground zero for impeachment based on their latest preposterous theory. More and more, this committee’s primary purpose seems to be leading a media spectacle, Rep. Devin Nunes
Rep. Devin Nunes, the Ranking Republican member of the committee, told SaraACarter.com, that the “committee’s purpose is to perform oversight of our intelligence agencies. But under the Democratic majority their focus was not on oversight, it was on proving their ridiculous conspiracy theory that Trump is a Russian agent.”
“That whole operation failed, so now they’re transforming the committee into ground zero for impeachment based on their latest preposterous theory,” said Nunes. “More and more, this committee’s primary purpose seems to be leading a media spectacle.”
Nunes, along with numerous other Republican lawmakers, sent a letter to Schiff in May, asking him to resign from his role as chairman of the committee. At the time, it was over comments Schiff made suggesting Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russia, despite a report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller III that concluded there was no evidence of a conspiracy with Russia.
Trump, whose administration has been under a barrage of attacks by Democrats calling for impeachment proceedings, slammed Schiff for reading a made-up transcript of his call with Zelensky. Trump tweeted that Schiff “fraudulently read to Congress” a version of the Zelensky conversation “that doesn’t exist.”
“I am calling for him to immediately resign from Congress based on this fraud!” said Trump on Twitter.
On Wednesday Trump Tweeted “why isn’t Congressman Adam Schiff being brought up on charges for fraudulently making up a statement and reading it to Congress, as if this statement, which was very dishonest and bad for me, was directly made by the President of the United States? This should never be allowed.”

A current military intelligence official told this reporter that “weaponizing the intelligence committee is detrimental to the committee’s function of oversight. The intelligence community should not be used as a political football to target the administration and it should never be used as a foundation to throw out lies against a duly elected president.”
It’s a nasty fight and at the end of the day it will serve the interest of our enemies, Daniel Hoffman, Retired CIA
Daniel Hoffman, a retired former chief of the CIA’s Middle East Department, said the lawmakers on the Intelligence Committee must but “committed to being nonpartisan about collecting the facts and I think that’s key.”
“The issue here is they’re going to face massive public scrutiny over how all of this is being handled,” said Hoffman. “But it doesn’t appear they are going to stop and they are going to drive the intelligence community through the meat grinder. Can they do this, is it possible to break away from partisanship but each day that passes it appears harder for them to do so. And it’s the American people are going to have to have to gain trust again in the system and believe that it can be nonpartisan.”
Hoffman said the only normalcy is for the intelligence committee to go back to what it is intended to without a “rush to judgement. Collect the facts and if we don’t we are playing into the hands of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, and other state actors, who would like nothing more than to have Democrats and Republicans at each others throats.”
“It’s a nasty fight and at the end of the day it will serve the interest of our enemies,” Hoffman added.
