Individuals connected to the illegal immigrant and murderer Jose Ibarra, who brutally and tragically took the life of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student, are facing deportation, according to Fox News. Jose Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national, was convicted of Riley’s murder, which occurred on February 22, 2024, on the University of Georgia campus.

Jose Ibarra’s brother, Diego Ibarra, 29, was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a fraudulent document. U.S. District Judge Tilman E. Self ordered that Diego Ibarra be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after serving his sentence for deportation proceedings.

At the time of Riley’s murder, Jose Ibarra resided with his brothers, Diego and Argenis Ibarra, and a roommate, Rosbeli Flores-Bello, all of whom are reportedly Venezuelan nationals. All were arrested and questioned during the investigation. Argenis Ibarra and Flores-Bello also admitted to possessing fake green cards. They pleaded guilty in December 2024 to the same charge as Diego. The judge ordered Argenis Ibarra and Flores-Bello to be placed in ICE custody immediately.

Diego Ibarra’s journey to the U.S. involved multiple illegal border crossings. He was initially deported in April 2023 but re-entered the U.S. and had a confrontation with border patrol agents. He was then placed in an Alternatives to Detention program but reportedly removed his ankle monitor and moved to Georgia. There, he was arrested on various charges prior to the Riley murder investigation. While jailed, he also damaged a jail sprinkler system and was found in possession of improvised weapons.

Court documents suggest a possible affiliation between Diego Ibarra and the Tren de Aragua gang, based on tattoos and social media activity.

Argenis Ibarra and Rosbeli Flores-Bello also have records of illegal entry into the U.S. Argenis was apprehended and returned to Mexico twice in April 2023 before being released from an ICE processing center due to lack of space. Similarly, Flores-Bello was released from an ICE processing center for the same reason after entering the U.S. illegally in May 2023. Flores-Bello had an immigration court hearing scheduled but traveled to Atlanta with Jose Ibarra, where they resided together until Riley’s murder.

Jose Ibarra was convicted in November 2024 and is serving a life sentence for Riley’s murder.
