Report: CDC Coordinated with Teachers’ Unions on School Reopening Guidance

A report released Wednesday by Republican lawmakers on the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis reveals that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention coordinated quite closely with teachers’ unions.

The partnership had “an extraordinary level in crafting its school reopening guidance, despite the agency’s earlier claims that such coordination was routine and nonpolitical” reports Fox News Digital which reviewed the report.

Republicans write in the report that emails between the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the White House, and the CDC shows that the AFT’s “cozy relationship with the Biden administration’s political leadership at the CDC positioned the union to impose line-by-line edits” to the reopening guidance.

The behavior was despite the CDC’s insistence of “past practice to keep draft guidance confidential.”  Fox News previously reported how the AFT and National Education Association teachers’ unions received a copy of the CDC’s guidance before they released it to the public.

On February 11, 2021, AFT’s senior director of health issues, Kelly Trautner, personally emailed CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky asking her to make an edit to add this specific line:

“In the event high-community transmission results from a new variant of SARS-CoV-2, a new update of these guidelines may be necessary.” Walensky then forwarded the email to Dr. Henry Walke, the director of the CDC’s Center for Preparedness and Response. Walke then made the addition for the union, and it was released the very next day.

In a joint statement provided exclusively to Fox News Digital, Republican Reps. Steve Scalise and James Comer accused President Biden of rewarding one of his biggest political donors while millions of children suffered from school closures.

Republican Representatives Steve Scalise and James Comer sent joint statement exclusively to Fox News Digital:

“The facts are clear: Biden’s CDC overrode routine practice to allow a radical teachers union that donated millions of dollars to Democrat campaigns to bypass scientific norms and rewrite official agency guidance,” Scalise and Comer wrote.

“The damaging edits by union bosses effectively kept thousands of schools shuttered across the country, locking millions of children out of their classrooms. The Biden Administration abandoned medical science and replaced it with political science to reward one of their largest donors, harming millions of children in the process. They bypassed the science to put union bosses ahead of children.

“Millions of Americans are still outraged at what these Washington Democrats put their children through, and all because union bosses demanded they keep schools closed longer,” they continued.

“America’s children are suffering, academically and mentally, because of the Biden Administration enabled school closures. Republicans will not rest until we uncover all the facts and hold everyone accountable who was involved in holding back millions of children from having equal opportunity to achieve the American Dream.”

EVERY tax payer in this nation should receive a FULL REFUND of ALL SCHOOL TAXES paid in the last year. The schools, teachers, and ALL employees that were paid TO DO NOTHING should have every penny of said pay recalled immediately.
EVERY person that contributed to this FRAUD in the schools should be prohibited from working with children EVER AGAIN.

Teachers’ ” unions” are supposed to be used for collective bargaining and addressing legitimate grievances for their members. Where is it written that they are also the ones to dictate what the school curricula are supposed to be? Hopefully these runaway trains will be reined in or abolished. The great liberal FDR was adamantly against public employees being unionized for precisely these types of reasons.

Former Harvard medical professor says he was fired for opposing Covid lockdowns and vaccine mandates

“My hope is that someday, Harvard will find its way back to academic freedom and independence.” That is the heartfelt message from Dr. Martin Kulldorff, a former Harvard University professor of medicine since 2003, who recently announced publicly he was fired for “clinging to the truth” in his opposition to Covid lockdowns and vaccine mandates.

Kulldorff posted the news on social media alongside an essay published in the City Journal last week. The epidemiologist and biostatistician also spoke with National Review about the incident. Kulldorff says he was fired by the Harvard-affiliated Mass General Brigham hospital system and put on a leave of absence by Harvard Medical School in November 2021 over his stance on Covid.

Nearly two years later, in October 2023, his leave of absence was terminated as a matter of policy, marking the end of his time at the university. Harvard severed ties with Kulldorff “all on their initiative,” he said.

The history of the medical professional’s public stance on Covid-19 vaccines and mandates is detailed by National Review:

Censorship and rejection led Kulldorff to co-author the Great Barrington Declaration in October 2020 alongside Dr. Sunetra Gupta of Oxford University and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford University. Together, the three public-health scientists argued for limited and targeted Covid-19 restrictions that “protect the elderly, while letting children and young adults live close to normal lives,” as Kulldorff put it in his essay.

“The declaration made clear that no scientific consensus existed for school closures and many other lockdown measures. In response, though, the attacks intensified—and even grew slanderous,” he wrote, naming former National Institutes of Health director Francis Collins as the one who ordered a “devastating published takedown” of the declaration.

Testifying before Congress in January, Collins reaffirmed his previous statements attacking the Great Barrington Declaration.

Despite the coordinated effort against it, the document has over 939,000 signatures in favor of age-based focused protection.

The Great Barrington Declaration’s authors, who advocated the quick reopening of schools, have been vindicated by recent studies that confirm pandemic-era school closures were, in fact, detrimental to student learning. The data show that students from third through eighth grade who spent most of the 2020–21 school year in remote learning fell more than half a grade behind in math scores on average, while those who attended school in person dropped a little over a third of a grade, according to a New York Times review of existing studies. In addition to learning losses, school closures did very little to stop the spread of Covid, studies show.
