House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff has come under scrutiny by Republicans for conducting an impeachment probe behind closed doors. Those Republican lawmakers attempted to enter a hearing Wednesday, but were barred by the committee. It was a “spectacle” to cover up President Trump’s “crimes”, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) told MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell Thursday night.
Republicans argued it exposed a lack of transparency in a partisan investigation to impeach President Trump. “We want to know what’s going on,” said Rep. Matt Gaetz who led the effort Wednesday in the basement of the U.S. Capitol however, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez argued Thursday that “They knew exactly what was going on inside.”
“They know what this testimony and what these depositions are adding up to and that frankly, it is revealing a very disturbing sequence of events and a very likely abuse of power and breaking of our oath to the constitution of the United States,” said Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez views the Republicans actions as a way to protect the President. His crimes, she said, are public pointing to the transcript of the phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“The president has committed crimes in public and this is something that we know. This is something that all people know.” said Rep. Ocasio-Cortez. Her statements, however, contradict the fact that the transcript revealed there was no ‘quid pro quo’ with Ukraine.
“From the green of the White House, he solicited election interference,” she said.
