The New York City Police Benevolent Association (NYCPBA) is urging Mayor Bill de Blasio to “step aside or be removed, in a letter posted to Twitter Friday. The statement came shortly after de Blasio announced he’s ending his 2020 presidential campaign. His next move, de Blasio wrote in an op-ed, is to return to championing the working men and women of New York City. The NYCPBA’s statement indicated otherwise accusing him of abandoning ship during to run for president.

“The only thing NYC Mayor’s presidential campaign accomplished was the alienation of hard-working NYers & the deepening of serious divisions in our city, especially between his administration & NYC police officers. He needs to either step aside or be removed,” NYCPBA wrote.

During his 2020 campaign, de Blasio polled below one percent in his home state. Today, he’s trying to win back favorability while attending the citywide “Climate Strike.” Speaking before a group of protestors, de Blasio endorsed the Green New Deal and said the world has only twelve years before the destruction of our climate, while slamming big oil.
