The GOP has experienced landslide victories in midterm elections in the past, but 2022 may prove to be quite spectacular. According to an ABC News/Washington Post poll released Sunday shows Republicans currently hold the largest lead in the generic congressional ballot since 1981.

“As things stand, if the midterm elections were today, 51 percent of registered voters say they’d support the Republican candidate in their congressional district, 41 percent the Democrat,” the Langer Research press release states.

Langer conducted the poll for ABC News/Washington Post. “That’s the biggest lead for the Republicans in 110 ABC/Post polls to ask this question since November 1981.” It is also only the second time the GOP has held such a statistically significant advantage. The first was January 2002 when they held +7points. “It’s also the ninth time it’s held any numerical edge at all.”

According to the poll, many details are at play. For one, Biden’s approval rating has plummeted to 41% in the poll. “Biden’s rating is at an all-time low for his career among nearly all demographic groups. Independent voters give Biden just 35% approval. However, 63% support the recently passed infrastructure bill and 58% favor the Build Back Better bill” writes the Daily Caller.

Independent voters are also at play. Independents often referred to as swing voters, show they currently would support a GOP candidate by a whopping 50-32 percent margin. “This is notable considering they voted +12 points for the Democratic Party in the 2018 elections, which were the most recent midterm election.”

Additionally, the poll shows widespread economic anxiety. With inflation running at a 30-year high, 70% of Americans say the U.S. economy is in bad shape. That is up from 58% earlier this spring.

Sam Brinton, the Biden administration’s deputy assistant for spent fuel and waste disposition at the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy has been charged with a very bizarre crime.

Allegedly Brinton purposely stole a woman’s Vera Bradley suitcase worth $2,325 from the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport’s baggage claim.

Brinton is one of the federal government’s first gender non-binary officials who uses they/them pronouns. Court filings state that surveillance video showed Brinton grabbing the luggage and removing the owners ID tag.

Brinton then used the Vera Bradley suitcase on at least two occasions; one while traveling to Washington, DC, on Sept. 18 and the second on Oct. 9, investigators say.

Initially, Brinton denied stealing the suitcase to police officers. They later claimed it was taken by mistake, although it was still  in their possession.
