The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), a prominent labor union representing thousands of Border Patrol agents, has voiced its unequivocal support for South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as the next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The union urged the Senate to confirm her nomination “quickly,” Fox News Digital reported last month.

Paul Perez, the president of the NBPC, wrote to Senators Gary Peters (D-Mich.) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.), the chair and ranking member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, respectively, to advocate for Governor Noem’s confirmation. “On behalf of the men and women of the National Border Patrol Council who protect our nation’s borders, we are excited to provide our support for President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee, Governor Kristi Noem, to be the next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security,” Perez stated in the letter, which was obtained by Fox News Digital.

The NBPC represents approximately 18,000 Border Patrol agents and has joined a growing number of law enforcement organizations endorsing Noem. The union’s support underscores its confidence in Noem’s leadership abilities and her track record on border security.

In the letter, Perez highlighted Noem’s effectiveness in governance, both in her home state of South Dakota and on the national stage. He pointed to her role in supporting Texas’ “Operation Lone Star,” an initiative aimed at addressing the ongoing immigration crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. According to the NBPC, Noem’s involvement in the operation demonstrates her proactive approach and commitment to securing the nation’s borders.

The DHS oversees several critical agencies, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the U.S. Secret Service, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Noem’s nomination comes at a time when border security remains a highly contentious and urgent issue, making her potential confirmation pivotal for the department’s future direction.
