Michigan Electoral Vote features ‘Black National Anthem’

The Michigan electoral college vote Monday included the recitation of the “Black National Anthem.”

According to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the anthem, which is also known as Lift Every Voice and Sing, was first written by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson as a poem.

His brother, John Rosamond Johnson, later set it to music.
