McConnell Says Impeachment Trial Will Likely Begin Next Tuesday

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Tuesday that the Senate impeachment trial will likely begin next week on Tuesday.

“The House is likely to finally send the articles over to us tomorrow and we’ll be able to…. in all likelihood go through some preliminary steps here this week which could well include the chief justice coming over and swearing in members of the Senate and some other kind of housekeeping measures,” Sen. McConnell said.

“We hope to be able to achieve that by consent which would set us up to begin the actual trial next Tuesday.”

The House is set to vote Wednesday on whether to hand over the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, says House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
