May 2017 Flashback: Sara Carter Predicts ‘Possible Surveillance’ Will Be One Of History’s ‘Biggest Scandals’
In May 2017, while reporting for Circa News, Sara A. Carter uncovered what would be later referred to as one of the biggest political scandals in modern history and predicted it at the time, calling for a complete investigation into the Obama administration’s ‘unmasking’ of Americans, most notably those who were in Donald Trump’s circle.
“It would be one of the biggest scandals this country has ever seen, If that’s proven,” Carter explained to Fox New’s host Sean Hannity at the time. “And all you have to do is go back to 2011 when they loosened up these rules. John (Solomon) and I reported on this. And then we see an increase of this. We see slowly but surely an increase of unmasking Americans and leaking of information. But what we don’t know Sean, yet, is why. And that’s why this investigation needs to continue, both for John and I, as well as for the Senate, and as well as for Congress to continue to ask these questions.”
She added, “Susan Rice needs to answer these questions, former Director Clapper needs to answer these questions, as well as Director Brennan. We need to know what they were looking at and why. And if they were compiling dossiers on political opponents, that needs to be disclosed. That cannot be held under the shield of classified information.”
Carter’s predictions were validated after Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell declassified a list of names of former Obama administration officials who ‘unmasked’ the identity of retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn during Trump’s transition to the White House.
“Only certain personnel are authorized to submit unmasking requests into the NSA system,” stated Grenell in the documents to top Senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson. “In this case, 16 authorized individuals requested unmaskings for (redacted) different NSA intelligence reports for select principals. While principals are identified below, we cannot confirm they saw the unmasked information. This response does not include any requests outside of the specified time-frame.”
This week, Grenell also declassified Former Obama National Security Advisor Susan Rice’s January, 2017 ’email to self’ in which she recounted her oval office meeting with Obama administration officials including Rice, President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, then CIA Director John Brennan, former FBI Director James Comey, and then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper just before President Trump was to take office.
“From a national security perspective, President Obama said he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the incoming team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason we cannot share information fully as it relates to Russia,” she said in the email that was crafted as the administration was engaged in spying on members of the Trump campaign.
