Man Dies After Lighting Himself On Fire Outside The White House
A man has died after lighting himself on fire outside the White House at approximately 12:20 p.m. Wednesday. According to a tweet posted by U.S. Secret Service, the man lit himself on fire near 15th and Constitution Ave on national park grounds.
At approximately 12:20 p.m. a man lit himself on fire on the Ellipse near 15th and Constitution Ave., Secret Service personnel are on scene assisting @NatlParkService and @usparkpolicepio in rendering first aid.

Witness video footage shows a moving figure completely ablaze moving across the Ellipse. U.S. Park Police identified the man as Bethesda, Maryland resident Arnav Gupta, 33. Following the incident, authorities took Gupta to the hospital where his condition was said to be “life threatening.” Authorities announced that Gupta ultimately succumbed to his wounds early Thursday.
Earlier on Wednesday, Gupta had been reported missing by the Montgomery County Police Department who said he was last seen by his family leaving his home at 9:20 a.m. At the time, Montgomery County police highlighted a concern “for Gupta’s physical and emotional welfare.”
