The fifth day of public hearings in the Trump impeachment inquiry, we’ll hear the testimony of:

  • Fiona Hill – former senior director for Russia at the National Security Council.
  • David Holmes – Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Kiev, Ukraine.

David Holmes, the counselor for political affairs at the US Embassy in Ukraine, is reading his opening statement to lawmakers right now.

His statement is 12 pages long. You can read his entire opening remarks by clicking here.

Holmes is delivering his opening statement and President Trump is tweeting, criticizing his expected testimony–Holmes is expected to say he overheard Amb. Gordon Sondland on a phone call with Trump to discuss status of “investigations.”

Trump tweets, apparently referring to Holmes:
“I have been watching people making phone calls my entire life. My hearing is, and has been, great. Never have I been watching a person making a call, which was not on speakerphone, and been able to hear or understand a conversation. I’ve even tried, but to no avail. Try it live!”

Rep. Adam Schiff says, that:

“In the coming days, Congress will determine what response is appropriate. If the President abused his power and invited foreign interference in our elections, if he sought to condition, coerce, extort, or bribe a vulnerable ally into conducting investigations to aid his reelection campaign and did so by withholding official acts — a White House meeting or hundreds of millions of dollars of needed military aid — it will be up to us to decide, whether those acts are compatible with the office of the Presidency.”
