This weekend in Michigan, Kamala Harris pledged that as president she would “do everything in my power to achieve…a two-state solution where Palestinians will have the right to self-determination…” This follows earlier comments from Harris that she had hoped to capitalize on Yahya Sinwar’s death to “work towards a two-state solution.”
Meanwhile, Palestinian leadership continues to signal that such a state would be a mere vehicle to commit genocide against the Jews.
For example, PA President Mahmoud Abbas chose to fly to Qatar to pay respects to two sons of the late Hamas arch-terrorist Ismail Haniyeh. He “conveyed his condolences” to the sons, and “re-called [Haniyeh’s] virtues on the path of the Palestinian national struggle,” according to Official PA TV News. In other words, Abbas admitted that he sympathizes with Hamas’ genocidal aims and actions.
And Fatah terrorists in Gaza are also praising Hamas. These terrorists recently posted a video showing the organization making explosives to commemorate Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attack. A crate of mortars in the video is labelled “The Al-Aqsa Flood Battle – Oct. 5, 2024.” Additionally, the walls of the compound have signs and graffiti on them stating: “The Al-Aqsa Flood Battle – engineering and production branch – Al-Aqsa [Martyrs’] Brigades, Al-Amoudi Division – Oct. 5, 2024;” “A free and Arab Palestine;” “We will continue to attack;” and “The occupation will pass soon – Oct. 5, 2024.” As Israel continues to smash Hamas in Gaza, it is evident who Fatah is siding with.
The members of Fatah in Judea and Samaria have a similar jihadist mentality. Fatah Movement Central Committee member Tawfiq Tirawi argued that the PA should encourage, not arrest, terrorists: “My personal opinion is that the arrest of these young people is a mistake. Instead, we must contain this situation, contain these young people and train them…We have young people full of patriotic enthusiasm to fight [Israel], but they lack training and experience, and therefore they must receive training.” Additionally, Tirawi called for Fatah to “clean our house of collaborators,” presumably, those that engage in security cooperation with Israel as required under the Oslo Accords.
And lastly, the Palestinian Authority criticized Iran’s recent strike against Israel…because it didn’t inflict mortal damage on the Jewish State. PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations Mahmoud Al-Habbash lamented Iran’s attack on Israel as “not reach[ing] a level that could threaten Israel and [did] not cause damage that would perhaps prevent Israel from continuing its aggression.” A columnist in the PA-run official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida website lamented that Iran’s recent strike against Israel did not cause enough damage, and that it “did not kill even one Zionist.” In contrast, the columnist praised a shooting attack that killed seven Israelis as a “self-sacrificing operation.”
So when Kamala Harris continues to voice support for a Palestinian state, who is she supporting and to what ends?
