This weekend, Israel used over half of its jets to strike Iran in three waves over a total of three hours. The satellite imagery following the attack suggested that Israel’s attack was a complex operation that had not only tactical but key strategic wins, according to Middle East expert Caroline Glick. Glick gave a comprehensive analysis, the key findings of which are below.
Israel Knocks Out Iran’s Anti-Aircraft Defenses
According to Glick, conflicting reports indicate that Israel has eliminated either four out of five or five out of five of Iran’s S-300 Russian-made, anti-aircraft, surface-to-air missile systems. This leaves Iran’s strategic sites entirely vulnerable or mostly vulnerable to the Israeli Air Force should Israel choose to strike Iran in the future.
Israel Knocks Out Iran’s Solid Fuel Propellant Production
Israel also attacked Iran’s solid fuel propellant capabilities. Solid fuel propellant is critical to giving ballistic missiles hypersonic capability, enhancing them to be able to strike Israel from Iran in minutes rather than hours. Israel attacked four sites that were part of the production line of Iran’s solid fuel propellant in Parchin. Additionally, Israel attacked another solid fuel production site in Tehran. Analyst have said that Iran will now need anywhere from several months to up to a year to replace these capabilities.
Israel Attacks Iran’s Illicit Nuclear Site
Israel also attacked one of Iran’s undisclosed nuclear sites in Parchin. This site (“Tallegan 2”) had been exposed in 2003-2004 as an illicit underground nuclear site that had not been declared by Iran. The United Nations inspected it in 2004 and 2015, and found trace amounts of undeclared uranium there in 2015 that suggested nuclear explosions testing. Parchin had evaded accountability from the Iran deal as Iran declared it a military site.
Israel Attacks Iran’s Drone Production Facilities
Lastly, Israel attacked Iran’s drone facility production sites, which erodes not only Iran’s capabilities, but capabilities for Hezbollah, the Houthis and Iranian militias in Iraq to strike Israel, and for Russia’s capabilities to strike Ukraine.
Additional significant wins include that Israel effectively used its Israeli-made mid-air refuelers in this attack, and that Israel has attacked Iran’s ballistic missile launchers.
Will the Biden-Harris administration allow Israel to continue to wage its war against Iran and its proxies until victory? Hopefully Israel will continue to degrade its enemies in spite of any interference from the Biden-Harris administration.
