HHS Secretary confirms it is ‘absolutely the government’s business’ to know who isn’t vaccinated

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Bacerra responded Thursday to backlash after President Biden suggested officials go door-to-door to ask who’s been vaccinated. Bacerra agreed that the federal government has a right to know that information. The Secretary appeared on CNN to discuss the backlash.

“So it is absolutely the government’s business, it is taxpayers’ business, if we have to continue to spend money to try to keep people from contracting COVID and helping reopen the economy,” he said. After all, the government spent “trillions of dollars to try to keep Americans alive during this pandemic.”

Later, in a tweet, he confirmed that there is no current database tracking which Americans remain unvaccinated.
