Governor Abbott Orders Texas National Guard to make arrests at the border

By Jenny Goldsberry

Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent a letter Tuesday to Adjutant General of the Texas National Guard Tracy R. Norris asking for their full involvement in arresting illegal immigrants at the border. Abbott says they need more manpower “in addition to the troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety and soldiers from the Texas National Guard I have already deployed there.”

“By virtue of the power and authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas,” Abbott wrote, “I hereby order that the Texas National Guard assist DPS in enforcing Texas law by arresting lawbreakers at the border.”

Meanwhile, the lone star state sees an increase in migrants crossing, sometimes dying at their border and other times bringing the coronavirus with them.
