The beautiful Parisian landmark of Notre Dame was ablaze in Paris early Monday, sending the famous spire atop the icon crashing down just days before Easter Sunday.
According to the BBC, the cause of the fire at the historical Catholic Cathedral was not immediately known. However the BBC said officials believe it “could be linked to renovation work.”
Flames and smoke could be seen shooting out of the top of the extraordinary 850-year-old Gothic building. Parisian firefighters are conducting a massive operation to save the church, which the Catholic Church has been working to refurbish since last year.
