Some Democratic candidates are increasingly using profanity in their campaign ads and public appearances, according to Breitbart. Words that were once considered off-limits in the halls of Congress-such as “ass” and “pissed,” are now being used more openly by politicians hoping to appear more relatable and passionate to voters.
One prominent example is Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett, who has gained attention for her candid and sometimes foul language. Other Democratic hopefuls, like New York’s Mike Sacks and Illinois Congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh, have also incorporated swearing into their messaging, with some choosing to bleep out the words and others leaving them uncensored. Abughazaleh’s campaign manager argued that this approach makes her seem more authentic, saying, “Kat sounds like a real person – and real people are f*cking fed up with the status quo.”
Nathan Sage, a Marine veteran running for office, echoed this trend by using strong language to describe how farmers have been “f*ed over” and vowing to “kick corporate Republican [Sen.] Joni Ernst’s a**” in the upcoming election, though his campaign ad censors the actual words.
Experts are reportedly divided on the motivation behind this shift. Some, like lexicographer Michael Adams, believe the use of profanity reflects genuine frustration among candidates who feel traditional political language is inadequate during what they see as a time of crisis. Others, including Republican critics, see it as a calculated attempt to win back voters who turned away from Democrats in 2024.
Some argue that President Donald Trump’s spontaneous use of language at rallies may have contributed to the move. However, experts like Ben Bergen, a cognitive science professor, suggest that Democratic candidates’ use of profanity is likely a deliberate strategy, carefully crafted to resonate with disaffected voters they believe.
As polling numbers lag and concerns about being out of touch with working-class Americans grow, some Democrats are reportedly believed to be turning to more direct and profane language in hopes of making a stronger connection with voters. These Democrats seem to think the only way to attract voters is to treat them as if they can only understand something if a foul word is used.
Until I looked closer, I thought this headline came in a Babylon Bee email!!! 🙂
