Top officials of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) met with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro Friday. According to Telesur, the chairperson of the National Political Committee of the DSA, members of the International Committee, and members of the IR Political Formation, Foreign Policy and Bilateral Relations sections were there.

During 2020, not even former President Trump would meet with Maduro over his fraudulent election in Venezuela. Now, President Biden is refusing to lift sanctions on the country but the DSA continues to hold out hope for the failed socialist state.

Now, Maduro is proud to be meeting with Americans while their presidents won’t. He tweeted out his encounter with DSA on Twitter. The DSA toted “broad support for movements for democracy and socialism in Venezuela” in a statement.

The DSA endorsed Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Cori Bush (D-MO), and Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) in the past.
