Dispelling media and political rumors, the Senate Intelligence Committee revealed Thursday phone records proving that President Donald Trump was not one of the blocked numbers his son Donald Trump Jr. contacted days before the famous Trump Tower meeting.
This was disappointing news for many main stream media outlets and Democratic politicians, like new House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, R-Ca, who had hinted at it almost anytime the subject came up in public.
CNN was the first to report the information regarding the phone records. CNN has also been one of the propagators of this particular rumor mill. I wonder how difficult it was when this information came out. But CNN’s headline “Exclusive: Trump Jr.’s Mysterious Calls Weren’t His Father” left a little wiggle room for suspicion.
I don’t know about the rest of you but I get mysterious blocked calls all the time and I make calls to blocked phone numbers. Either it’s someone in government, a scammer, or somebody who likes their privacy or someone from overseas. There’s a million reasons and it’s really not that mysterious.
Here’s the crux regarding the “mystery phone calls” media outlets and Democrats have really pushed over the last year.
Trump Jr. was calling his father, President Trump, to tell him about the meetings and President Trump lied about it: False.
Here’s what we know
Trump Jr. had made phone calls to two blocked numbers the same day he spoke with Russian pop star Emin Agalarov. Agalarov was the guy who helped set up a meeting three days later with Natalia Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer. She was identified in court documents as a former Russian prosecutor and private lawyer in Moscow who had been representing the Russian businessman Denis Katsyv and his Prevezon Holdings. Prevezon was up against a U.S. Department of Justice a civil asset forfeiture case.
Prevezon, which had been sanctioned by the U.S., had also hired the now embattled Fusion GPS research firm, which we later discovered was investigating Trump Russia collusion and had hired the former British spy Christopher Steele to compile the dossier. Later we discovered that the research into Trump was being paid for by the Hillary Clinton Campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
Interesting, isn’t it?
The Phone Records
According to the phone records Don Jr. made a private call before and then another one several hours later after getting off the phone with Agalarov.
Now, according to ABC News and CNN those calls were not to his father, as Democrats and some media outlets had hoped but to NASCAR CEO Brian France and real estate developer Howard Lorber. Both Trump family friends who supported the president during the 2016 campaign.
Many media outlets and anti-Trump pundits, including Schiff, speculated that the call was to his father President Trump. Those rumors suggested that then-candidate Trump knew about the meeting with the Russian lawyer and lied about it: Again, False.
President Trump has always denied this allegation.
One disclosure, John Solomon, now with The Hill and I, broke the story on the Trump tower meeting the same day as the New York Times in July, 2017. Not easy an easy task, since there was only so much information available at the time.
But with time, we discovered so much more and so has the rest of America.
