Twelve Democrat House Representatives published a statement Thursday in response to a recent tweet from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) that compared the U.S and Israel to the Taliban and Hamas. In the statement, her fellow colleagues “urge Congresswoman Omar to clarify her words.”

The statement is signed by Reps. Brad Schneider (D-IL), Jake Auchincloss (D-MA), Ted Deutch (D-FL), Lois Frankel (D-FL), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Elaine Luria (D-VA), Kathy Manning (D-NC), Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Dean Phillips (D-MN), Kim Schrier (D-WA), Brad Sherman (D-CA) and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL). They demand clarification on the tweet because it “at best discredits one’s intended argument and at worst reflects deep-seated prejudice.”

Omar implied that the statement was all for show, tweeting that they could have just called her personally for clarification. Instead, she accused them of prejudice. “The islamophobic tropes in this statement are offensive. The constant harassment & silencing from the signers of this letter is unbearable,” she wrote.

Report: Captured Terrorists Confirm Shifa Hospital’s Role as Hamas Hideout

The Israel Defense Forces released footage alongside a statement on X of Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives admitting that a huge amount of terror operatives are hiding in the Shifa Hospital in Gaza. The depositions are described in the statement as containing “details of Hamas terror infrastructure deeply embedded within the hospital, which is used by senior Hamas operatives for planning and directing terror attacks.”

One associate from Islamic Jihad told interviewers that he estimated that there were as many as 1,000 militants stationed in and around the medical campus, including certain sections that “belong” to his group. The individual described the maternity ward as his organization’s “headquarters.”

According to some of the prisoners in the recordings, the building’s medical residency department is serving as an improvised weapons storage room.

Some of the detainees claimed to have been stationed at the facility for as long as three months, which the Foreign Desk News explains suggests that the terror groups reestablished their positions shortly after Israel withdrew from the facility on November 15.

The hospital is a prime location for terrorists to conduct operations out of because they do not abide by International law, which requires that medical infrastructure be demilitarized during times of conflict. Additionally, any attempt to use them for belligerent activity is supposed to result in negating the statutory protections that they are given. However, “This distinction is important in light of criticism that Jerusalem has received for currently attempting to regain control of what is Gaza’s largest health care facility” according to the Foreign Desk News.
