A gripping video released by the U.S. Coast Guard has gone viral, showcasing a high-stakes drug interdiction in the eastern Pacific Ocean, Fox News reports. The footage, recorded by Petty Officer 3rd Class Austin Wiley, captures the moment the crew of the USCG Cutter Kimball (WMSL 756) intercepted a suspected smuggling vessel on April 17.
In the video, Coast Guard members can be seen quickly approaching the suspect boat, issuing firm commands in Spanish for the individuals onboard to raise their hands.
“’Hands up!’ the service members can be heard yelling in Spanish at the suspects on the alleged smuggling vessel,” according to Fox News. The suspects immediately complied, lying face-down with their hands outstretched as instructed.
After securing the scene, Coast Guard personnel boarded the vessel and detained the suspects. According to officials, this marked the fifth successful interdiction during the Kimball’s patrol. The operation began with aerial surveillance, followed by tactical law enforcement action, and concluded with the sinking of the intercepted vessel to prevent it from becoming a navigational hazard.
Throughout these five missions, the Kimball’s crew seized an estimated $214 million worth of illegal drugs, which were later offloaded in San Diego. The Coast Guard emphasized the ongoing threat posed by illegal narcotics and reaffirmed its commitment to stopping such shipments before they reach the United States.
“Illegal drugs pose a dangerous threat to the American people, and the men and women of the Coast Guard do everything in their power to interdict drugs before they reach our shores,” the Coast Guard said.
I remember my daughter on the Bout well. So many pictures. And one of her sitting on a throne made with the bricks of the bust she originated, as the “wheel woman”. She has sharp eyes still. And a Brain. Thank you for your service COASTIES!
