Chicago Weekend Violence: 59 Shot, 3 Fatally
Over the weekend in Chicago, 59 people were shot, three fatally, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
“The numbers are the lowest the city has seen in over a month, when 33 people were shot and two killed between June 12 and June 15,” read the report.
With the continuing violence, President Trump announced he will deploy federal law enforcement to the Windy City, despite Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s dissent.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, no troops, no agents that are coming in outside of our knowledge, notification, and control that are violating people’s constitutional rights. That’s the framework,” Lightfoot explained on Sunday’s “State of The Union.”
She added, “We can’t just allow anyone to come into Chicago, play police in our streets, in our neighborhoods, when they don’t know the first thing about our city. That’s a recipe for disaster. And that’s what you’re seeing playing out in Portland on a nightly basis. We don’t need that here, that’s not a value added, and it doesn’t help enhance our public safety.”
