Yuma, Arizona has seen a large influx in illegal border crossings in 2019. So much so that in March, Yuma CBP reported “capacity issues” and said they were identifying potential detainees for release with upcoming court dates. Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls met with President Trump and acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan Tuesday “to discuss the security and humanitarian crisis at the southern border,” according to the White House.

Nicholls declared a local emergency on April 16.
