CA Prioritizes Illegal Immigrant Healthcare Allocating Nearly $10 Billion of Taxpayer Funds

California, a state grappling with the aftermath of devastating wildfires, has come under criticism for allocating nearly $10 billion to provide healthcare for illegal immigrants, according to Fox News. Critics argue that this significant expenditure is being prioritized over other pressing needs for American citizens.

According to Guadalupe Manriquez of the California Department of Finance, the state is set to spend $9.5 billion this year to cover illegal immigrants under Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program. The funds are being used to expand healthcare access to individuals who are ineligible for federal assistance due to their immigration status. This move aligns with California’s progressive policies aimed at providing universal healthcare access, but it has sparked a heated debate over fiscal responsibility and resource allocation.

California Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher has been one of the most vocal critics of this decision. He argues that while California is pouring billions into healthcare for illegal immigrants, many working Californians are struggling to access affordable medical care. Gallagher also highlighted the strain on the state’s emergency rooms, which he claims are overcrowded and under-resourced.

“The state is shelling out $9.5 billion on healthcare for illegal immigrants while emergency rooms overflow, hospitals teeter on the brink and working Californians struggle to see a doctor,” Gallagher said. “Rather than making responsible choices, leaders are raiding the rainy-day fund to keep the spending spree going. This isn’t just a budget crisis — it’s a complete failure of leadership.”

Steve Hilton, founder of Golden Together and a Fox News contributor, said it’s “yet another example of California Democrats’ totally wrong priorities,” according to Fox News.

“People are asking, ‘Where did all our money go?’ Hilton added. “And here’s the answer: ideological obsessions like this — free healthcare for people who are here illegally. People have had enough of all this.”

The controversy over healthcare spending comes as California continues to recover from a series of devastating wildfires that have ravaged communities across the state. Critics argue that resources should be directed toward improving emergency response systems and wildfire prevention measures, especially given the state’s history of destructive fires. California Governor Gavin Newsom has been harshly criticized for the state’s handling of wildfire preparedness and response in the aftermath of the disaster.
