The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency has alerted all field offices that Iran or its proxies may attempt to transport “operatives, money, or materials” across the southern or northern U.S. borders to conduct a terrorist attack against Americans. This warning was detailed in an agency memo obtained Wednesday by Just the News.
The memo, issued by the CBP’s Office of Field Operations, urged personnel to maintain a “heightened posture due to ongoing security threats.” It highlighted a recent coordinated attack by Iran-backed Hezbollah on Israeli children in the Golan Heights as a potential precursor to similar attacks against Western targets. The assassination of a Hamas leader in Tehran by Israel was also cited as a factor that could lead to escalated tensions and possible reprisals against the United States.
“The seniority of the targets, the sensitive locations of the strikes, and their near simultaneity represent an escalation in tension in the region and raise concerns of additional reprisals from Iran and its regional proxies,” the memo states.
The memo further warns that with significant influence and presence of the Iranian government and Lebanese Hezbollah in the Western Hemisphere, there could be attempts to cross the U.S. borders to support operations within the country. CBP personnel were advised to increase enforcement measures, including conducting high visibility operations and implementing “hardening measures” at ports of entry.
Additionally, the memo urged collaboration with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to “deter, prevent, preempt, or respond to a terrorism attack against the United States.”
The memo also confirmed earlier intelligence reports indicating that the Venezuelan-based gang, Tren de Aragua (TdA), has moved significant assets across the U.S. border to northeastern states. Intelligence suggests that TdA operatives, particularly those operating in Denver, have been “given a green light to fire on or attack law enforcement.”
This warning from within the Department of Homeland Security, led by Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, is one of the most severe reminders of the potential election-year consequences of the Biden-Harris administration’s policies, particularly those that loosened border security and unfroze billions of dollars to Iran, a U.S.-designated state sponsor of terrorism.
The memo comes amid a series of dramatic developments related to terror threats. On Wednesday, authorities canceled a series of Taylor Swift concerts in Austria due to concerns over possible terrorism. A day earlier, federal prosecutors in Brooklyn revealed that the FBI had arrested a Pakistani man nearly a month ago, accusing him of working with Iran to carry out assassinations targeting several political figures, including former President Donald Trump.
In addition, a major military base near Washington, D.C., Fort Belvoir in Virginia, suddenly closed its gates to non-authorized and public travel due to unspecified security threats. In May, a nearby base, the Marine headquarters at Quantico, Virginia, also arrested two Jordanian men for attempting to enter the installation without authorization.
National security expert Walid Phares, who has advised several presidential candidates and works closely with U.S. counterterrorism efforts, told *Just the News* that he believes Iran may be orchestrating terror attacks and making threats to leverage a better deal with the Biden administration. Phares expressed concern that the administration did not reveal the arrest of the suspect in the Trump assassination plot for several weeks after his arrest on July 12.
“Iran’s leaders want chaos because, in chaos, they can do whatever they want in the region, including attacking Israel and the Arabs,” Phares said. “The most important question for our public is, why was the public not informed? Congress needs to start asking these questions.”
Phares also pointed out that the Iran deal is not solely about nuclear weapons but involves significant financial dealings. “It’s a deal over $150 billion, and the regime is undoubtedly signaling that if you expose anything we’re doing or our agents are doing, we’re off the deal,” he added.
