The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has charged four Mexican nationals, all living illegally in the United States, with participating in an international human smuggling ring that operated across Mexico, Canada, and the United States, Breitbart reports.

According to federal authorities, “Edgar Sanchez-Solis, 23, unlawfully residing in Kansas City, Kansas; Ignacio Diaz-Perez, 35, unlawfully residing in Oakwood, Georgia; Samuel Diaz-Perez, 26, unlawfully residing in Dublin, Ohio; and Salvador Diaz-Diaz, 32, unlawfully residing in Columbus, Ohio, were charged by indictment with conspiracy to bring aliens to the United States and 25 counts of bringing aliens illegally to the United States for profit.”

Federal authorities also noted that Ignacio Diaz-Perez and Salvador Diaz-Diaz were previously removed from the United States.

Court documents allege the group was part of a larger smuggling network responsible for moving hundreds of migrants weekly from Mexico, Central America, and South America, through Canada, and into the United States. Migrants reportedly paid thousands of dollars for the journey.

The DOJ detailed several high-risk encounters involving the smuggling operation. In one instance, smugglers led law enforcement on high-speed chases along the northern U.S. border, endangering public safety. For example, in April 2023, a group of smugglers fled from Border Patrol after triggering a border sensor, but were eventually stopped and found to be transporting seven adults and three minors. In another incident in May 2023, a van carrying migrants was halted with a tire deflation device after failing to stop for authorities. The occupants attempted to escape on foot but were apprehended. In August 2023, a vehicle fleeing Border Patrol in Plattsburgh, New York, ran a red light, struck another car, and the driver and six migrants fled but were later caught.

These charges are part of “Operation Take Back America,” a broader federal effort to combat human smuggling. According to Breitbart News, the operation is “an effort involving multiple federal law enforcement agencies to enhance border security and combat cartels and transnational criminal organizations in the aftermath of the Foreign Terrorist Organization designation.”

Chief Patrol Agent Robert N. Garcia of the Swanton Sector praised the work of law enforcement, warning that those who attempt to illegally enter or smuggle people into the U.S. will face serious consequences.

“These charges are a testament to the hard work of the men and women of the United States Border Patrol and its partner agencies,” Garcia said. “The days of catch-and-release are over, and the reality is clear; if you attempt to enter the United States illegally, if you attempt to smuggle or traffic human beings, you will be apprehended and you will face severe consequences.”

Border security continues to draw attention as the Trump administration has taken on the enormous task of dismantling the Biden administration’s weak border policies and replacing them with ones that aim to restore security at America’s borders.
