Biden terminates Trump emergency order used to construct border wall
President Joe Biden notified Congress in an email Wednesday that he has terminated the national emergency over the U.S.-Mexico border.
“I have determined that the declaration of a national emergency at our southern border was unwarranted,” the email states.
“I have also announced that it shall be the policy of my Administration that no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall, and that I am directing a careful review of all resources appropriated or redirected to that end.”
This announcement comes after Biden issued an executive order on his first day in office suspending the border wall construction.
Former President Donald Trump issued the national emergency at the border in early 2019. Trump’s declaration diverted more than $6 billion to construct or repair the southern border, Politico reported.
