An anonymous tip phoned into police led to a suspected drug tunnel found in Tijuana earlier this week according to Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilar Durán, Baja California’s Secretary of Public Safety.

He also confirmed the tunnel is connected to another found two years ago in the same area that runs into U.S. territory, according to Border Report.

“It’s attached to a tunnel that had been taken out of commission in 2022. We have three tunnels in that same area that have been constructed in the past,” said Aguilar.

He also stated at this moment, they don’t know the exact length of the tunnel. “Due to the lack of oxygen, we have not been able to reach the end of it.”

According to Aguilar, they are in the process of getting oxygen tanks to personnel so they can finish the investigation.

Aguilar pointed out this is the first tunnel discovered so far this year.

Homeland Security Investigations and the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement are the lead law enforcement agencies involved on the north side of the border.
