Remember Hillary Clinton’s famous 2008 political advertising that depicted children sleeping soundly in their beds late at night with a voiceover saying that “something is happening in the world” at that moment and that “Your vote will decide who answers that call,”…well there is no need for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) to wake up for that call, she claims to be up at that time anyway, worrying about the negative effects of climate change on the world.

“Even while I was on vacation, I woke up in the middle of the night, at 3:30 in the morning, just concerned about climate change,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a recent instagram posting.

She also pointed out her struggles with balancing her work life, and claimed climate change might affect her ability to have a family.

“I’m 29 years old. I really struggle sometimes with the idea of how to be a policymaker and potentially have a family in the time of climate change,” she said. “And it really, like, freaks me out and it can be really, really scary.”

“We are kind of blowing past a lot of the markers that scientists thought would happen years from now, and they’re actually happening now. Our glaciers are melting, our sea levels are rising,” she said.

“I’m scared sometimes, too, about the world that I’m going to be living in, that we’re all going to be living in. And I sometimes fear what we’re going to be living with when I’m 40, 50, 60 years old.”
